Mary Kay Mace: "The Problem is that the Names are Not in the Database"
Mary Kay Mace lost her only child, 19 year-old Ryanne Mace, on Valentine's Day in 2008 when a shooter opened fire at Northern Illinois University, killing five and wounding sixteen others. After the tragedy, Mary Kay became an advocate for fixing the broken background check system. Mary Kay has worked to ensure that records of individuals who are supposed to be prohibited purchasers -- including the mentally ill -- are in the NICS database.

I am joining more than 600 U.S. Mayors in calling on members of Congress to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people by taking two critical steps:
1) Get all the names of people who should be prohibited from buying guns into the background check system.
2) Require a background check for every gun sale in America.
